Victoria Morton
FOR LA FETICHE

5.5.22

Victoria Morton’s art has encompassed painting, sculptural assemblages, photography, and sound. Her recent paintings vary in scale, opacity, colour and spatiality, each composition intricately and intuitively developed. Informed by music, colour perception and the everyday ‘stream of consciousness’, and drawing on personal narratives and historical and cultural references, Morton’s works explore unfolding psychological experience.

Morton lives and works in Glasgow, Scotland, and Fossombrone, Italy. She studied painting and mixed media at Glasgow School of art, 1989 - 1995. In the late 90’s she made collaborative installation, film and performance with Elizabeth Go. In 2009 she was artist in residence at the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum in Boston and had the inaugural exhibition of the Renzo Piano-designed contemporary gallery there. Morton was a member of the art/music group Muscles of Joy until 2014 and has since played extensively with the band Sound of Yell. She currently makes music with artist Luke Fowler, as SOTTO VOCE. Painting remains at the centre of her practice.
